Loose polyethylene encasement is found to be very effective for protection of Ductile Iron Pipelines.
The dielectric capability of polyethylene shields the pipeline from stray direct current encountered in the field. It also provides a physical inert barrier between the pipe and the soil to take care of chemical and galvanic corrosion.
